If you find yourself consumed by a sense of panic or anxiety, here’s a simple trick you can try to relieve it if you’re at home and near the freezer.

Grab some ice.

Hold it tight in your hand over the sink.

Now pay attention to the frozen block:

  • How does it feel in your palm?
  • How long does the water take to melt?
  • Where does the water run through your fingers?

The cold immediately grounds you, distracting you from the overwhelm you feel in your mind, guiding you to the sensation you feel in your body.

Just one little block of ice can help reset your giddy thoughts and pull you back into the room, freezing out the intense hum of anxiety. It’s a quick, easy way to interrupt the panic cycle, so you can catch your breathe, find balance, and regain a sense of calm.
