To build her resilience, fine artist, author, and creativity coach, Michele Perry takes five minutes each day to look for wonder ― even when those days are tough, then documents what she finds in the most creative way.

“January 28, 2018 I woke up after a car accident with what felt like a stranger’s brain in my head. Overnight, I became a writer who lost her words. And I never felt more alone … watching my life crumble around me,” says Michele. “I immersed myself in poetry, in small moments of beauty, and in finding daily wonder.”

To follow Michele’s daily practice and find wonder for yourself, you don’t have to be an artist, or even be creative. All you need is a calendar to track the days (with space to make your mark), and something to paint, draw, doodle or write with. Michele shows us how she creates miniature paintings of wonder using watercolours, but you can choose any medium you like to do the same, even if it’s just choosing a colour.

“Finding ways to connect back to ourselves, one another, and the world around us have never been more vital,” says Michele. That’s why “I write about the practice of cultivating simple everyday moments that deepen our creativity and strengthen our wholehearted connection to ourselves and one another.”

Seek out “one teeny tiny moment of beauty and goodness in each and every day”

If you want help to get started, join Michele’s Subtsack The Wonder Habit™ (at any point) and, over the course of many months, “you’ll have cultivated a life-changing practice of resilience and created a masterpiece of your year one tiny moment of wonder at a time,” she writes on her website.

“Wonder was the path back to myself and to depths of connection and creativity I could not have then imagined.  It was so, SO simple.  And it saved my life.”
